Our menstrual cycle and Yoga
In my own journey with yoga, I have struggled with the strict discipline of some teaching traditions. Overtime I began to really understand how women’s bodies and energy levels differ from men. We follow a monthly cycle and our energy levels rise for half of our cycle and contract after ovulation. I started to adapt my yoga practice to my energy levels and began to choose really nourishing practices such as yin yoga or seated breathing practices during menstruation or when I felt like I needed it. This has helped deepen my relationship with my body even more. It has been a beautiful process of trusting and unfolding, understanding that our womb holds deep wisdom. Here I talk more about the different stages of our menstrual cycle and yoga practices that may be supportive during each.
